Meet the Van: The Journey to a Mobile Resource Hub

Welcome to Community in Motion ! We're excited to introduce the heart of our project: a 2002 Ford E-350 that's been transformed into a mobile resource hub for Staunton, Augusta County, and Waynesboro. This is not just a vehicle -- its a bridge to essential services, a safe space on wheels, and a step toward closing gaps in accessibility!

The Beginning of Something Big

This van has a lived a long life, but it still has plenty of miles left to serve. Right now, it's a blank canvas- built in benches, a desk, and storage- but with a little work, it will be come a fully functional community resource center!

My Goals:

  • Accessibility to the internet whether utilizing laptops on board or just connecting to our mobile hotspot!

  • Library staff members bringing your library holds on board ready to be picked up by you!

  • Grab and go resources to connect you to those who might be better to assist you.

  • Utilizing a our current partnerships to bring hygiene products to you.

  • Being a one stop shop for kiddos and teens to grab a light snack, fun fidgets, and more!

We're designing this space to be flexible, practical, and most importantly, useful to the individuals who need it the most.

The Vision

Transforming this van means balancing function and comfort. We want it to feel like more than just a vehicle—it should be an inviting, supportive environment. Our efforts will maximize built-in storage to keep supplies organized and accessible while also ensuring that seating and work areas are comfortable for those using the space. Lighting and accessibility are key, making the van well-lit and easy to navigate. Small details, from color choices to layout, will help create a warm and welcoming atmosphere rather than a clinical or impersonal space. Every element is being thoughtfully planned to make the most of the van’s interior while ensuring a practical, functional design that serves the community effectively.

What’s Next?

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be working on design choices, testing layouts, and gathering supplies.

If you have ideas or want to get involved, we’d love to hear from you! What would you like to see on the van filling the shelves?

Fingers crossed, we get the vehicle rewrapped so you’ll be able to spot us more easily! Who knows? Maybe you could design the wrap! Reach out if you’re interested!

Stay tuned for updates as we turn this vision into reality. And don’t forget to check back for pictures as we make progress!
